New PC Setup
How to configure a new PC to work in Active Directory
Joining a Windows 2000/XP Workstation to a domain
*This procedure assumes that the Computer account has been created in Active Directory within appropriate OU, and that you know the Administrator password for the computer.
If your area uses ghost to deploy images when setting up computers, please ensure that sysprep has been used on that image before it was deployed. This is a required step. If a computer is not sysprepped, it may not work reliably in Active Directory.
- If the PC has no EKU tag, use the following naming convention for computers:
- The PC name will consist of the first two characters of the manufacturer, plus the full serial number of the machine.
- DE = Dell
- AC = Accent
- GA = Gateway
- IB = IBM
- CO = Compaq
- HP = HP
- GE = Generic
- AP = Apple
- Rename the computer to EKU999999 where 999999 is the EKU tag number of the computer.
- If this computer was made from an existing XP/2000 image, make sure the computer has been sysprepped.
- Create a computer account in Active Directory in your container (this may already be done).
- Login to workstation as Administrator

- Right Click ‘My Computer’
- Choose ‘Properties’
- Click ‘Computer Name’ tab
