Known AD Migration Issues
A list of all known migration issues and their resolutions.
Sysprep
All computers that will participate in Active Directory must be prepared using the sysprep utility from Microsoft. Failure to do so may result in reliablity problems on the PC that will result in the need to come and do a sysprep after the migration is over.
ZoneAlarm
ZoneAlarm must be disabled to join active directory. The Windows XP firewall that comes with SP2 is sufficient for most users. If you really need ZoneAlarm active, there are some firewall rules that need to be added. Please contact Networking for resolution to this problem.
Network Data not Available on migration day
As the migration process requires us to move data from the departmental Novell servers to our new fileservers, that data tends to be inaccessable for a short period of time (usually the first day of migration). This is a short term problem, and most users are in good shape by the end of the first day.
Outlook doesn't work on migration day
We also have to move each email account from the EKUMAIL domain to the FACULTYSTAFF domain. We do these moves each morning before beginning to work on a section of users, and Outlook does not work again until we visit your computer. We recommend that faculty/staff use http://owa.eku.edu on the day of migration, choosing FACULTYSTAFF from the dropdown until we get that computer converted. Again, this is a short term problem, fixed by someone converting that faculty members computer for Active Directory.
That's all we have for now, more to come as we learn of any more problems.
