Accessing AD Resources as a Student Worker

How do student workers connect to network drives?

Student workers do not get regular AD drive mappings when logging into a machine on campus other than their w: drive, so special care must be taken if a student worker needs network drive access. To accomplish this, we create a desktop shortcut for them to use when they need to access this drive.

Assuming that the student has already been setup with access, these are the steps for getting the connected to the n: drive.

  1. Have the student login to the computer with their student email account
  2. Right click on the Desktop and choose "New" and then "Shortcut"
  3. In the "Create Shortcut" dialog box, type this: "\\filesrv\ekudata"
  4. Click Next
  5. Enter the name for the shortcut, like "Ndrive" in the next dailog.
  6. Click "Finish"

You could also map a drive to this resource by opening "My Computer", choose "Map Network Drive" from the tools menu and entering this information:

Drive Letter: (choose one from the list)
Network Path: \\filesrv\ekudata
Check the box for "Reconnect on login" and it should always show up.

If a student needs to edit a departmental web site that they have been granted access to, follow the same procedure as above and use \\web\sites instead of \\filesrv\ekudata.
